![]() Even more concerning was the response from Disk Drill, who tried to upsell me on additional software for video repair rather than addressing my concerns. To my disappointment, the recovered clips were unusable, leaving me frustrated and disheartened. Desperate to recover them, I turned to Disk Drill. Recently, I encountered a distressing situation when some of these clips went missing. As a travel blogger, we rely heavily on our external harddrives to store countless memories in the form of videoclips. Same is happening every where i dont know if disk drill is paying attention to this or not. It was pretending? pretending to do what? It seemed to me it was also pretending on my setup could also be you deleted something that a 3rd party app needed to do some function related your internet connection like a VPN for example and it was unable to do so thus making your computer hang while trying to establish the connection since you say it worked in recovery mode which would have prevented most 3rd party apps from starting up on bootĪssuming your backup was from before you installed disk drill sounds more like your backup was the issue and had something wrong with it or you deleted something you shouldn't have These first two both point to an ISP issue also Safemode typically disables network access or limits it unless booting into safe mode with networking, but, as a windows user, I'm not sure if thats a thing on MacOS on a Linux distro I'd assume it is but on a Mac and how much apple tends to limit the user it may or may not be. that being said there's better software out there. If these are the first things you try when your internet drops but your router still send out a wifi signal, meaning there's probably an issue on your ISPs side of things like an outage, instead of using your phones mobile data to check if there's an outage or checking if your phone is able to use the wifi or the most basic thing just trying to restart the router first this is probably why you ran into problems and it just so happened to coincide with when you tried the software as diskdrill doesn't connect to the internet nor does it need an internet connection to work. I tried to fix a variety of things, login items, background tasks, removed all files associated with processes Restore previous backup and my laptop is now healthy Tried many things that didn't work, copied files to a remote storage and formatted the drive. Migrate to backup using migrate agent (not in recovery mode, in userspace) Delete the app, and other files I can find. ![]() I notice reddit posts, some claiming it pulls random files from a git repo and it seemed to me it was also pretending on my setup Grant permissions : The techradar link, a youtube tutorial and other reddit posts make me think its legit I eventually formatted my drive and re-loaded When i tried to restore to an earlier version (w/o formatting ) same issue came back up, attempting to restore to a time machine backup said drive was full. Safemode didn't have internet but recovery mode (holding power & shift on boot) was able to access internet fine. Trying to open settings in Safari kept staying in spinner mode Ping was working but I did not have any dns functionality (nslookup, dig, etc) I tried to fix a variety of things, login items, background tasks, removed all files associated with processes and even tried to audit ps aux but still no dice. IF ANYONE HAS A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE PLEASE PILE ON SO I KNOW FOR SURE.Īfter I uninstalled it I could no longer access the internet, wifi connects but no internet access. I just had to format and re-install my computer after using drill disk. TL DR: Used Disk Drill and it worked but only saw the negative reviews after and asking for advice on what to look out for to make sure my laptop/information is safe. ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am deathly afraid of my laptop being compromised in anyway. What else should I check for? I'm a Mac user and total tech noob. ![]() I immediately uninstalled it and removed the security permission it had on my laptop. That's when I saw all the negative reviews on Disk Drill, mentioning its a scam and some even saying it could contain malware. I downloaded the free version from the cleverfiles website and actually managed to recover my files to my SSD (opened some of them and they seem to be working).īut after that, I went to look online for more information as I was confused why the cleverfiles tutorial mentioned you had to pay for the software when I managed to recover all my stuff with the free version. I realised this a couple hours after deleting them and quickly went to search online and found Disk Drill. Essentially I accidently emptied my trash with a folder containing mostly photoshop, illustrator and.
